2020 IBL Workshop on Courses for Future Elementary Teachers

This 2020 IBL Workshop on Courses for Future Elementary Teachers is a special workshop held this year via zoom and google classroom.

  • Workshop Description: This workshop will be a virtual workshop held via a zoom conference. This workshop will be focused on courses for future elementary teachers as opposed to basic IBL knowledge. Participants will read an analyze literature and how it pertains to the IBL classroom, they will analyze and discuss video of IBL classes and tasks. By the end of the workshop they will utilize their skills and knowledge to create their own task for an IBL classroom.

  • Who’s this workshop for: This workshop is intended for those who have some IBL experience and teaches classes focused on future elementary teachers. This workshop will help you to learn to adapt IBL to these specific courses.

  • Attendance expectations: The IBL workshop meets from 9-11 am (PT) on the four dates listed with potential for homework between sessions. It is expected that the participants are fully present and engaged during all sessions and that any extra work is completed prior to the workshop date that it is needed. We understand that there may be other obligations and challenges during these times and we will be recording these zoom sessions to view after the session in case something comes up.

  • Workshop Pairs: You will be working in virtual pairs for this workshop! It is optimal if another colleague from your institution also participates in this workshop so you can be paired together but it is not required! We will pair you if needed!

The location for this workshop will be via a zoom conference, internet and a computer is all that is needed to be able to participate in the workshop.

A registration fee and registration form are required. The registration fee is $50 and is non refundable.

Q: Am I eligible to apply? 

A:  Math Faculty of all ranks employed at colleges and universities with undergraduate programs in North America are eligible to apply. Unfortunately, K-12 teachers and graduate students are not eligible. Postdocs, and assistant professors are especially encouraged to apply.

Q: What do I need to bring?

A: You will need your laptop with good internet connection, zoom access, and your course materials.

Q: Is the registration fee refundable?

A: The registration fee is non-refundable.
